I also give permission to use any and all photographs and/or video/audios of my child obtained while attending and/or participating in the Afterschool Program. These items become property of the WHS 21st Century Afterschool Program and they shall have the right to duplicate, reproduce, and make other uses when the opportunities arise to provide positive information and publicity for programs sponsored by the participating agencies. Welcome to the 2016 Spring Cycle of the 21st CCLC After School Program at WHS! The Spring Cycle begins on Monday, March 21, 2016 and runs for 8 weeks.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Registration booklets are available at the main office, the guidance office, and the CCF office on the upper level of the library.
WHERE DO I BRING MY REGISTRATION FORM?
Complete the registration form, have a parent/guardian sign it and return it with the fee to the CCF office on the upper level of the library or leave it in the CCF mailbox in the main office which is the big orange bin on top of the teacher mailboxes. Very important: Once you have signed up for a session, please be sure to honor that commitment by attending each week it meets.
IS IT FREE?
There is an annual membership fee of $15.00 per family for the year and then only the $5.00 activity fee per each student due at the start of each 8- week session. If you have already paid a membership fee this year, then it is just the $5.00 activity fee. Cash or check payable to: Connecting for Children & Families (CCF). No student will be turned away if they can- not pay. Please ask for a scholarship form in the CCF office on the upper level of the library.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
Beside having access to lots of different clubs and activities for three 8 week cycles throughout the year, you will be eligible to participate in all the field trips and activities we offer during vacation weeks and throughout the year. Also —if you attend all 8 weeks of the programs you sign up for, you will receive a certificate of completion which you may use for your Portfolio at the End of Year Celebration.

Several times during the program year families will be invited to informational gather- ings or to simply have fun at planned activities and events. We really encourage parent and family participation with our high school students and often include some extra perks like refreshments and raffles. Connecting for Children & Families will collaborate with various community partners and city agencies to offer workshops and training to parents and family members. Par- ents will gain the skills and knowledge to become more effective at home, school, and the community.

The Gamm Theatre After School Program is for young actors who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the art of performance. Through dynamic and active scene and mono- logue study, we will explore character development, improvisation, vocal technique, audience awareness, blocking concepts, and rehearsal etiquette. Actors of all levels and experience are welcome! This 8 week session will prepare students for a scene and monologue showcase in May.

You are welcome to produce pieces for yourself or earn community service credit by making items we will donate to local charities or our local maternity ward at Landmark. MODERN DANCE - Monday - Fusionworks Dance Company Member Amy Burns — Auditorium Stage
Fusionworks will present an after school dance program that will include modern dance clas- ses, improvisation, choreography, and a performance. Each participant will take part in the creation of a dance that will be performed at the year end after school celebration, as well as Mrs. Maiello’s spring show. Dance students are welcome and will be challenged technically however, formal dance experience is not necessary, just a desire to move and an open mind.

New participants can learn simple cake decorating skills from frosting a cake, to writing a personal message on the cake, flowers and more, while previous participants can move on to advance their- skills. This is a class that continues from week to week so signing up and committing to the 8 weeks is important.

Be a part of the leadership of WHS. Students also saw the film, The Finest Hours. This film is the true story of a 1952 small boat Coast Guard rescue of 30 survivors. Their ship split in two off the coast of Cape Cod during a winter storm at sea.

MODERN DANCE - Monday - Fusionworks Dance Company Member Amy Burns — Auditorium Stage
Fusionworks will present an after school dance program that will include modern dance clas- ses, improvisation, choreography, and a performance. Each participant will take part in the creation of a dance that will be performed at the year end after school celebration, as well as Mrs. Maiello’s spring show. Dance students are welcome and will be challenged technically however, formal dance experience is not necessary, just a desire to move and an open mind.
NOVAN G.S.A. (Gay Straight Alliance) - Thursday — Mrs. Blanchette – Room 212
The Novan G.S.A. will inspire others to be comfortable in their own skin. We will support and edu- cate ourselves, the school, and the community about issues of diversity and acceptance. We hope to take action and make change so that all students and the WHS community members feel safe and supported.

During this 8 week cycle participants will have the chance to complete various robotic/engineering problem solving projects. Possible activities may include building robots, programming, and 3D print- ing just to name a few.
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD - Wednesday — Mrs. McGarrity – Chem B
We are looking for serious science students to build our team to compete in Science Olympiad against all the other high schools in R.I. The research and studying involved will almost be like tak- ing another class so you must be willing to make that commitment until the competition in April. A pre-college science , technology, engineering and math program that prepares students to enter and graduate from college and pursue careers related to science and math. There are several field trips involved as well as a strong connection to URI students and URI resource faculty.

Be a part of the team that works together showcasing the success and accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff both academic and athletic as well as what’s happening in our school. Our newspaper titled The Villa Novan. We’re looking for writers and photographers as well as graphic designers. We are part- ners with The Woonsocket Call and The Valley Breeze and there’s an opportunity to write for these local newspapers and intern with them during the summer. THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF CAKE DECORATING - Monday —Mrs. Leone – HEC B
An introduction to the world of cake decorating. Learn simple cake decorating skills from frosting a cake, to writing a personal message on the cake, flowers and more. This is a class that continues from week to week so signing up and committing to the 8 weeks is important.
YOUTH AMBASSADORS - Thursday – Kris Wright—WHS Library
Be a part of the leadership of WHS. Youth Ambassadors will be made up of students who will dis- cuss how to improve the CCF after school program, take on leadership roles for various projects and committees, and implement activities that will impact the quality of our school and community envi- ronment in a positive way.
