DILYN COTE ALL-AMERICAN THROWER!
Jared Briere- Jared is a Junior at WHS who is competing in his 7th National Championship meet (5 New Balance Nationals, 2 Junior Olympic Nationals) He is a New Balance All-American from Outdoor track last year in the hammer and a 2 time Junior Olympic All-American and National Champion last year. Zach is one of the athletes that you admire, he has never been the top dog, and at times has been over shadowed by the other throwers on the team. But, he shows that with consistent hard work eventually things will pan out. A very well earned trip to the National Championships prove that never giving up and sticking to it can lead to something. He will be competing in the Emerging Elite weight throw this weekend.
Amanda Taft- Amanda is a senior at WHS and is competing in her 4th National Championship. Amanda has had a tough year but has maintained a consistent effort in throwing which has lead to the birth in this years meet. @RHODY BASEBALL HIGHLIGHTS SENIOR KYLE BEAULIEU
URI BASEBALL COACH CERRATO SHARES THOUGHTS ON KYLE BEAULIEU
KINGSTON, R.I. - Head coach Raphael Cerrato has announced the singing of eight student-athletes – Kyle Beaulieu, Greg Cavaliere, Anthony DeSouza, Vitaly Jangols, Nick Robinson, Connor Romano, Sonny Ulliana and John Willette – to National Letters of Intent for the 2017 season.
"We are very excited to add these eight student-athletes to the Rhody Baseball family," Cerrato said. "We expect most – if not all – of them to be immediate contributors. The pitchers all have a great deal of upside and we are so excited about their potential. Not only is this a talented group of baseball players, these guys are our type of kids. They have great make up on and off the field and are very good students. They should represent our program well over the next four years."
"Kyle Beaulieu – C – 5-11/180 – R/R – Woonsocket, R.I. – Woonsocket High SchoolChose to attend URI over the United States Air Force Academy, Holy Cross and TCU… Selected Rhode Island because he loved everything about the University, especially the campus location and the way the coaching staff handled the recruiting process.
High School: Is a member of the baseball and indoor track teams at Woonsocket High School… Captained his track team as both a junior and senior… Earned All-Division baseball honors as well as his team’s Most Improved Player award as a sophomore… Finished his junior year with a .469 batting average, en route to earning team MVP honors as well as All-Division and All-State first team accolades… Is a high honor roll student and four-year member of the National Honor Society.
Personal: Born Sept. 29, 1998… Son of Laurie and Jamie Beaulieu… His aunt, Cathy Brousseau, was a member of the tennis team at Bryant… Favorite athlete is Bo Jackson… Favorite teams are the Boston Bruins and New England Patriots… Enjoys baseball and fishing… Plans to major in kinesiology and pursue a career as an athletic trainer.
Cerrato on Beaulieu: Kyle has the chance to be an excellent defensive catcher for us. He is very athletic with a strong arm. We see him becoming a leader with a great presence behind the plate.

21 SAVES FOR GOALIE NICHOLAS BEALS IN TIE VS. JOHNSTON/NO. PROV
The Woonsocket Scituate Co-op hockey team led reigning Division III champion Johnston/North Providence late in the third period of Saturday night’s contest at Adelard Arena. The Panthers, however, salvaged a 3-3 tie when Justin Harvey found Jacob McCullough for a goal with 1 minute, 50 seconds left in regulation. Woonsocket/Scituate (2-7-1 Division III) received a goal and an assist from Steve Darwin and goals from Joe Roy and Matthew Besser. Goalie Nicholas Beals made 21 saves in the tie. Johnston/North Providence (5-3-2 Division III) grabbed the lead1:33 into the second period on a Brandon Tanguay tally, but the Villa Novans answered with goals from Roy and Besser to take the lead into the third period. Nathan Nye tied the game 16 seconds into the third period, but Darwin rebuilt the one-goal lead before the Panthers earned a late tie. Woonsocket/Scituate will be back in action Friday night at 8 p.m. against East Providence at Cranston Ice Arena.

WOONSOCKET AND SCITUATE A CO-OP TEAM THIS YEAR-DEBUTED DECEMBER 4 VS. JOHNSTON AND N. PROVIDENCE CO-OP TEAM
In a request approved by the RI Interscholastic League, Woonsocket High School and Scituate High School combined their two teams to compete in Division III this year. On Friday, December 4, they hosted defending Division III champions, the Johnston/North Providence team losing by one point in the last two minutes remaining in the game by a score of 4-3. Senior goalie Nick Beals played exceptionally well and senior defenseman Austin Forget, 3rd team All-Division last year and honorary captain in the game, netted the team's first unassisted powerplay goal. There are five girls playing on the team this year-two from Scituate and three from WHS--Stephany Abreu DeCastro, Paige Bibeault, and Julia LaPlante!
The new team uniforms, the same colors as the Colorado Avalanche's away colors, with a Villa Novan patch on one shoulder and a Spartan patch on the other, should be ready soon.

Girls' Basketball
Head Coach: Shawn Harris
Coach Harris, formerly the girls’ basketball coach at Woonsocket Middle School, is in his second year coaching girls’ basketball at WHS. He's been coaching his freshman players since 6th grade and wants to follow them to high school until they graduate. He finds academics and athletics very important to him; he wants to make sure that his players are putting work in on and off the court. A very young varsity team with 3 out of 5 freshman starting each game, the season has been a challenging one so far according to Coach Harris. In the game versus Johnston, their leading scorer who averages 17.8 points a game did not play in the game resulting in a loss. January 28th the team acquired their first league win vs. Lincoln High School 44-34.
Junior varsity coach Jeff Calhoun greets the teams at the gym door, personally welcoming them to Woonsocket.
