Congratulations to the Woonsocket High School debate team on their performances at the Sarah Jaye Overstreet Tournament-RI Urban Debate League Championships and Nationals Qualifying Tournament. Woonsocket High School Senior Kelley Babphavong and her Classical High School partner, Ryan DiLello faced Woonsocket High School sophomores Dominique DiSpirito and Kahlyl Roberson in the finals placing first and second in the State, respectively. By taking the championship and runner up titles for the state, Kelley, Dominique, and Kahlyl are eligible to attend the National Urban Debate League Championships in San Francisco, California, April 14-17, 2016. Kahlyl also placed sixth in speaker points for the varsity division, while Dominique received the Sarah Jaye Overstreet Award for the debater who mentors, supports and serves as an inspiration to her peers. Woonsocket's Novice team of Alexis Braden and Joseph Carr also placed first in their division by forfeit.

DEBATE TEAM COMPETES AT 100 STEPS TO JUSTICE TOURNAMENT AT RWU
Congratulations to the Debate Team for their performances in the latest debate tournaments. At the 100 Steps to Justice Tournament at Roger Williams University, Kahlyl Roberson, debating without a partner, placed first in the varsity division, debating before three judicial judges in the championship round.

DEBATE TEAM COMPETES AT NEW ENGLAND INVITATIONAL
At the recent New England Invitational, Kelley Babphavong placed 15th in speaker points among 48 championship level debaters. Kelley also advanced to the quarterfinals of the championship division. Dominique DiSpirito ranked first in speaker points among the 48 championship debaters. Alexis Braden, debating in the novice division , ranked first in speaker points, while her partner debating in his second tournament ranked ninth in speaker points among the 24 novice debaters. DEBATE AT PROVIDENCE COLLEGE NOVEMBER 21
DEBATE TEAM COMPETE IN THIRD TOURNAMENT OF SEASON
Congratulations to the Woonsocket High School Debate team on their performance in the third tournament of the season Saturday. Woonsocket had representatives in the novice, junior varsity and varsity categories. In the novice division, the team of Shania Herasenko and Alexis Braden came in fifth place among 11 teams. Shania, in addition, earned a first place ranking in speaker points among 22 debaters.
In the junior varsity division Kahlyl Roberson, placed third in speaker points in a field of twenty-four JV debaters. Kahlyl, with his partner Olivia Akinsumoye won the JV division winning first place in a field of twelve JV teams.
In the varsity division Kelley Baphavong ranked second in speaker points and was also a member of the second place team in the varsity finals. Congratulations to all!
The WHS team also came in third in the sweepstakes category, a classification calculated by the number of awards received per member of the team. Finally, Woonsocket also took home the team spirit award. Congratulations to all Woonsocket Debaters! Go Novans!

RESULTS OF THE DEBATE TEAM IN THEIR 2ND TOURNAMENT OF THE SEASON
In the Novice division, Olivia Akinsunmaye and Josh Miranda competed in their first debate together as a team placing third in the team standings. Josh placed first and Olivia placed fourth in speaker points in a field of over 15 debaters. In the Varsity division, Kelley Babphavong placed fifth in speaker points and third in the varsity team standings.
